Erosion/Infiltration (ICON)

Erosion/Infiltration also called ICON, is a technique originally intended to treat incipient caries, but today after 10 years of clinical experience this treatment has proven very effective for masking white spots, because it modifies the optical properties of the tooth.

Indeed, hypomineralisation due to fluorosis (diffuse or spotty white spot resulting from the absorption of fluoride when the tooth is immature during childhood) has a refractive index different from that of healthy tissues.

The infiltration is then achieved with a very fluid resin, with a refractive index close to that of healthy tissues; the diffusion of light is more natural and the lesion then becomes invisible to the naked eye.

The preservation of the tissues with this treatment is maximum; it is a very minimally invasive approach since it is only a chemical treatment and not a mechanical one; furthermore, the aesthetic gain is significant and is durable over time.
